I just bought the M-Audio with ProTools recording studio/software. How do I get it to record?
I installed the programs and my computer says the peripheral hard ware has been detected and installed. However, when I push record nothing happens. Do I have to select the input or what. I am in desperate need of help.
Lare has no idea what he is talking about. First, you will need a microphone or instrument connected. Create a new track by going to Track > New. Select a mono audio track in samples. This will create a new track. Now you need to go to the Mix Window. You can do this by selecting Window > Mix. On your track you will see a section in the middle labeled I/O. The top grey rectangle is the input. Select Input 1 (assuming your microphone or instrument is in Input 1). The bottom grey rectangle is your output. Select Output 1-2. This is most commonly the Headphone/Monitor Output. Now press the record-enable button. Play your instrument or talk into your microphone. If you still don't get any level, slowly turn up the gain or trim knob on your interface until you see signal. Now you can press F12, or Numpad 3 to start recording. Additionally you could press Command+Spacebar on Mac or Control+Spacebar on Windows.
