Paying someone to sew pinch pleat curtains?
I will buy the fabric myself, so I am not figuring that cost in. I just want to know what someone would charge to sew pinch pleat curtains (with a room darkening backing) for me. The measurements are approximately 144 in x 84.
Most curtain sewers charge by the width. i.e. how many widths of fabric in each curtain. In England £10 per width would be reasonable, and this would include a lining sewn in. Some sewers would charge more for handling black out fabric. If you are having pinch pleat tape, this should be included within the cost - however, if you want the pinch pleats done by hand and with buckram, expect to pay more. Pleats with buckram look better (especially on thicker fabrics), as quite often the tape does not support the pleats very well, and they can end up looking like gathers. Quite often the place you purchase your fabric from will either have a making up service and/or a list of sewers that they would recommend.Do make sure that your track/pole is strong enough to hold the curtains, as you will have quite a bit of fabric. Good curtains will last a long time, so don`t necessarily go for the cheapest sewer...the sewing is cruitial.
